Mike Mattingly
Beginning guitar lessons at age eleven in Richland, Washington and continuing studies in jazz guitar with John Chappelle, led to Mike’s role as guitarist for the award winning Columbia High School Jazz Choir and Jazz Band. He also played guitar for the Girl’s Jazz Quartet as they took first place at the Reno International Jazz Festival.
He next played with the Jazz Band and Choir at Columbia Basin College, then on to Central Washington University where he was a member of John Moawad’s Jazz Band as they took first place at the West Coast Collegiate Jazz Festival at Berkeley, California.
After moving to the Seattle area, Mike was involved with a number of musical groups including
Ronnie Lee (Rock)
Boy Toy (Top 40)
Albritton McClain and the Bridge of Souls (R&B)
Kevin Jones Band (Adult Contemporary)
He has performed at many top local venues including Rock Candy, 5th Avenue Theatre, The Paramount, The Gorge, The Crocodile, and Off Ramp Cafe. During this time, Mike also began doing session work with numerous artists and recorded at many local studios including Steve Lawson’s, Triad Studios, Bad Animals and Robert Lang’s.
Currently Mike is involved with five major performing acts:
The Craig Terrill Band (#93 Defensive Tackle for the Seahawks - Southern Rock)
Ecstasy in Numbers (Jazz/Fusion Trio)
Ruby Nevada (Country)
Apple Jam (Beatles Tribute Band) – who not only performs locally at such venues as the The Triple Door and Neumos, but recently debuted in Liverpool, England with their new CD entitled “Off the Beatle Track”.
Apple Jam was honored with sharing the spotlight with none other than guest artist, Alan White of Yes/John Lennon fame.
The most notorious of all his current endeavors is a band that he has been involved with for the past nine years – The Herding Cats Band (Classic Rock). They have performed nationally, internationally, as well as at local venues. They can be seen every Sunday night at the Wilde Rover in Kirkland, Washington – when they are not busy with private events, corporate events or weddings.
Mike’s true passion is his gift of teaching. He is thrilled to be able to share his experience and knowledge with his students. He has been a professional instructor teaching guitar and bass for over 20 years; with the past seven years as a full time member of the Pacific Music team.
